The Folklore Celebrates Black Business Month with Nordstrom NYC

In celebration of August's National Black Business Month, The Folklore Group collaborated with Connect retail partner Nordstrom to support their annual Black Business Month Campaign.

To kick-off the month-long campaign, Chiana Johnson, Senior Director of Retail Sales at The Folklore Group joined the impactful panel event, fostering community and conversation alongside Allyson Bennet of Harlem's Fashion Row, Christina Funke Tegbe, Founder of 54 Thrones and Moya Annece & Ashley Cimone, Co-Founders of ASHYA at Nordstrom NYC Flagship.

Guests enjoyed cocktails, light bites prepared by Chef Krystal Lewis of Wolf Restaurant and flavorful oysters from The Real Mother Shuckers oyster cart, browsed a special pop-up curation from The Black Home, while surrounded by florals by Oat Cinnamon and enjoyed music by DJ Nikki Kynard.

Key Attendees included: Kelly Augustine, Layton Lamell, Sofiyat Ibrahim, Nana Agyemang, Yaminah Mayo, Ajani Russell, Coco Basssey, Kela Walker, Chichi, Corin Christian, Neffi Walker and more

Nordstrom piloted their first Black Business Month program in 2022 and created #BuyBlack pop-up markets to highlight a special curation of local Black businesses along with spotlighting the Black-owned or founded brands that are carried in the year-round offering. The positive response and strong support from customers successfully drove $14 million in sales of Black-owned or founded brands at Nordstrom in August 2022 alone.
